Do CFLs burn out more quickly if they are switched on and off frequently? |

Yes, although by the time it burns out you may still have earned back its cost or more in energy savings. If your need for light is brief, you’ll probably find the time the CFL takes to ramp up to full brightness is more annoying than its shortened life. The EPA and others suggest not using CFLs where they will be on for less than fifteen minutes. Turn them off when you leave a room unless you’ll be back in a few minutes.
