I hear CFLs have mercury in them. Do you need a HAZMAT team in yellow suits to clean up if they break? |

Like all fluorescent lights, CFLs have a small amount of elemental mercury, which exists as a vapor until the glass tube is broken. To get a sense of the danger level, consider reading the Scientific American article Are Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs Dangerous? If a CFL breaks, follow the EPA (Energy Star) instructions given here.
